Good people. Great music. Good time.

Widespread Panic returned to Jackson Hole at the height of summer and engineered a rock-and-roll blowout at the base of Snow King Mountain.

The show would be one of guitarist George McConnell’s last with the band and also featured Sam Holt, Michael Houser’s guitar understudy, for some incendiary second-set jamming. As he had been for most of the summer tour, John Keane also was part of the lineup, looking like had just stepped out of REM-heyday Athens, Ga. The band reportedly had family in the audience and clearly enjoyed themselves on a perfect night, beneath the verdant slopes of the King and the backdrop of East Gros Ventre Butte.

While “Red Hot Mama” early in the first set was certainly smokin’, the highlight of the evening was the “Hatfield” > Drums > “Arlene” montage midway through the second.
