Fat Albert is about to get fatter.
Following up on last month’s incendiary jam with DJ Logic, Willie Waldman, Brian Jordan and others, the Jackson funk band is hosting more friends tonight for another genre-bending, mind-blowing exercise in improvisation.
L.A. trumpeter Waldman is back, and he is bringing with him drummer Stephen Perkins (of Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros fame), bassist Rob Wasserman (Ratdog, Lou Reed, Elvis Costello) and guitarist Clint Wagner, a veteran Nashville session player. The musicians are touring together as Banyan.
Expect various combinations of these players to rotate with Fat Albert’s Andy Calder, Ed Domer, Jeff Eidemiller and Mark Longfield. Expect it to be intense. But that’s about all to expect, as Banyan usually blows the roof off with downright insane jazz-funk exploration.
Showtime is 10 p.m. at 43 North. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $13 at the door.
