I knew it was a jinx.

On Monday, the New York Mets e-mailed to inform me that I won a lottery for the chance to purchase playoff tickets. The Mets look after their fans in Wyoming.

Alas, the boys at Shea haven’t won a game since. I had no intention of using the tickets, but planned to give them to my brother Shawn and his friends.

The sunshine bores the daylights out of me ...By now you’ve probably heard about the climbing movie being shown tonight at the Playmill (née Pink Garter/Mainstage) Theater, King Lines, starring Chris Sharma.

But you may not have seen this provocative promo poster circulating in cyberspace, featuring a photo by Heather Erson of the model “Trixie.”

Forget about the climbing. These are the lines I’m checking out! Curvy lines. Queen Lines.

Our friends over at The Snaz will be showing a short film before Sharma takes the screen. Doors open at 7 p.m., and films start at 8. There will be plenty of swag and FREE BEER.

Tickets are $10 in advance at Cloudveil or $12 at the door.

Sharma, incidentally, is a climbing wunderkind known for his solo ascents of cliff faces over open water. One such route, called Es Pontas, off the coast of Mallorca, Spain, is featured in the film.

Click here to view a trailer of the film, and here to read Sharma’s bio on Wikipedia.

view of the Teton Range, as seen from Shadow Mountain

Just another evening in the Tetons.

This is the view from the base of Shadow Mountain last night. Shortly after the photo was taken, the full moon rose in the opposite direction. Choose your splendor.

More on this later.

Big Dick having a ballJust when we thought there would be peace in the Hole for off-season, the great warlord Dick Cheney is returning this week for at least a short visit.

Cheney will attend a private reception for U.S. Sen. John Barrasso on Friday evening at the Couloir restaurant atop the Bridger Gondola at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

The last time resort owner Jay Kemmerer opened his posh new restaurant to politicians, Barrasso was there to schmooze with the airlines that service Jackson Hole.

first taste of winter

Teton Pass Web camYesterday’s dusting of snow in the mountains was fitting, following on the heels of the first official day of autumn.

Naturally, the appearance of the white stuff leads to speculation about the coming winter. Will we be skiing in Jackson Hole by Halloween? Or will the season be another disappointment like last year, plagued by rain and perma-thaw?
