A-Hole
Cheer up, Rockies fans, it could be worse. You could be rooting for the Yankees.
Bronx Bombers got a double detonation of disaster last night: While the Red Sox were sweeping the World Series, the best player in baseball hung up his pinstripes.
“A-ROD A-GONER,” screamed today’s N.Y. Daily News. “A-BOMB,” shouted the Post.
Scott Boras, agent for Alex Rodriguez, may have outsmarted himself on this one. Not only was the announcement an advertisement of A-Rod’s selfishness, the backlash against the timing was so sharp today that it might trim a few million dollars off the player’s next contract.
A little old-fashioned collusion by the owners, and Boras could wind up begging somebody to pay A-Rod $25 million a year.
Yankee fans can take heart, too. For the past 14 seasons, since A-Rod broke into the league, someone has won the World Series without him on their team.

So awful to read in today’s Daily about the hunting mishap and death of News&Guide press foreman Dan Fauver. I worked with Dan for several years at the paper, and he was a class act and truly nice guy.
Suddenly the Red Sox, A-Rod and baseball didn’t seem worth talking about anymore.
My thoughts go out to Dan’s family and friends and former colleagues at the News&Guide.
