R.I.P. F30

I was saddened last week to hear that the mountain lion from last winter’s magical sighting was dead — as a result of its proximity to humans.

The lion, known to researchers as F30 but to me as “Simba,” starved to death after being moved from the Cache Creek area in early September.

Photography at the Summit

There hasn’t been much to read here this week because I’ve been participating in the Photography at the Summit workshop at the National Museum of Wildlife Art.

It’s hard not to get totally immersed in the lectures, critiques and shooting.
Chasing the early light and downing a few cocktails at the Silver Dollar Bar late at night will wear a photographer out, too.

This is an image that caught my eye. With the majority of the 50 or so students in town to shoot pretty pictures of wildlife, leave it to a Jackson Hole native to give a different take.

eBay, anyone?

Some will win. Some will lose. Some were born to sing the blues.

Destined for eBay?These scraps of paper will be sports memorabilia some day, like when I’m old and crotchety and pull them from a shoebox and recall the September the Mets stunk as badly as Flushing Bay at low tide.

At least the last two weeks of aggravation are over.

For Met fans, these unused tickets will be a badge of honor, yet another reminder how the bitterness of failure only sweetens the nectar of victory. That’s what separates us from Cowboy fans, Laker fans and — most of all — Yankee fans.

Until next year, what else is a lover of lovable losers to do but jump on the Cubs bandwagon? Go Rockies!
