A winter with no jobs and no snow would be really depressing.
Finally, some good news: Enough snow has fallen and been made for Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, savior of the winter economy, to open the Bridger Gondola and Casper triple chairlift on Saturday.
Most of the terrain is pretty tame, but access to the Gros Ventre and Sleeping Indian is a start.
Conditions will permit “long cruising runs,” according to a resort press release. Teewinot and Apres Vous already are open for skidding.
But wait, there’s more: Meteorologist Jim Woodmencey is calling for snow Friday night, Saturday and Sunday, so there could be cowboy powder to push around, in addition to secret stashes on the edge of the woods.
The forecast looks promising enough that Jackson Hole is still banking on a smash debut of the new Aerial Tram the following Saturday, Dec. 20.
And Snow King Resort plans to link its mounds into a thin, groomed trail beginning this weekend as well.
If there is one thing that you can count on in Jackson Hole, if not a job, it’s that it always snows.
