The Radiators canceled their shows tonight and Friday at the Mangy Moose, depriving us of a New Orleans dance party at a time when we really could use it.
Fortunately, the weekend is stacked with DJs to spin away the mid-winter blues, starting with Friday night’s Jackson Hole Community Radio benefit featuring All Good Funk Alliance at the Playhouse.
As it has with programming, KHOL is taking a grassroots approach to fund-raising. The station plans to have a monthly party where everyone can chip in $15 or so to keep the music flowing on the air.
All Good Funk Alliance is a pair of DJs from Alexandria, Va., who borrow from hip-hop and jazz and once opened for James Brown.
KHOL aims to bring in a “more approachable funk and jazz sound than a lot of the electronica that comes to town,” says manager Walker White.
Tune in at 89.1 FM and check out the station’s new music blog. The party starts at 10 p.m., with a $15 cover at the door.
On Saturday, the knuckle-dragging glitterati takes over Snow King Resort and thumps to New York City hip-hop at Jackson Hole Snowboarder magazine’s Shanghai Nights party.
We had a bit of fun at last year’s gala. This time the theme is Far East.
“That’s the great thing about Jackson Hole: We just throw out an idea and can’t wait to see what costumes people come up with,” says publisher Jesse Brown.
The Beatnuts, a hip-hop duo from Queens, headline the bill, supported by the Brooklyn band Nacirema and local DJs Cut la Whut and Mikey Thunder.
Festivities commence at 9 p.m. $25 gets you into the dojo; tickets are available at the Village Cafe, Backcountry Provisions, Jackson Treehouse and Jackson Hole Wine Co. Proceeds benefit the Jackson Hole Ski and Snowboard Club.

For the Fish Heads: KMTN’s Fish-Mon says The Radiators canceled because keyboardist and singer Ed Volker is ill, and the band is looking to reschedule for later this winter.

does anyone know why the Radiators canceled their shows at the Moose?
see end of post — Ed Volcker reportedly was sick.
got it, thanks, hopefully I’ll catch the show when re-scheduled.
The Shanghai Nights party was a great event, except that my jacket and a friends jacket were stolen! I guess you can expect that with a group of snowboarders(unfortunately). Maybe they can do a coat check next year?
I thought there was a coat check.
bummer. cold night, and a lot of confusion. down puffys everywhere, and it’s easy to pick up the wrong one.
cheer up, though — I heard a remarkable story that night of a guy who was reunited with a jacket he had lost at the previous year’s late-night party, checkbook still in the pocket.
Jim – that is a great story! I hope to be as fortunate next year!
