The downtown branch of Wells Fargo bank was held up at gunpoint today.
No one was injured, said Pete Lawton, bank president. The robbery occurred at about 10:30 a.m.
The robber made off with a sum of cash, but Lawton could not say how much.
The FBI is investigating, along with the Jackson Police Department. Authorities have a suspect, Lawton said.
The bank has “very sophisticated” surveillance and alarm systems in place, making it unlikely a robber could get away with the crime, Lawton said. “It doesn’t make much sense to me.”
He could not comment further, to avoid jeopardizing the investigation, he said.
In this age, if someone wants to rob a bank, they ought to come armed with subprime mortgages and a credit default swap.

Update: The suspect was apprehended rather quickly, according to a Twitter post from Teton County Emergency Management.
Here’s the first Tweet after the robbery:
Bank robbery dwntwn.Look for whi male, 40’s, blu shirt, red tie, blu jeans in silv grand am.Do not approach! 733-2331
Silver Grand Am! That’s a hot rod for a getaway. Maybe it was one of those clowns from Long Island.

Update 6/23: The robber may not have used an actual gun. According to the News&Guide, the suspect in custody, Patrick Stigen, 47, put his hand in his pocket “to suggest he had a gun.”
Bank tellers generally are trained to treat such gestures, no matter how comical, as an actual threat.

They seemed to have apprehended the robber quickly thereafter this morning. Wild west lives on. Unless it was a hapless Shoot-Out member gone bad.
Jim – Teton County reported it this morning using the Nixle network here:

strong work, jim! this was the first site we found here at the news&guide art department that knew the story with this hold up.
sure, we probably could’ve walked upstairs and asked someone… but our finger are more exercised than our legs…
i saw the police taking care of this guy in front of sidewinders this morning on the highway. good work for the uniforms.
They should have picked up the Wells Fargo Loan officers why they were there! Talk about robbery.
If the guy was smart, he would’ve used a green Subaru as a getaway car for a better chance at escape.
punnel
Great stuff! Bah hahahaha
