Gold Dust Woman (and golden guitar)

Here’s a clip of Warren Haynes and Grace Potter performing together at the 2008 Jammy Awards. Could be a preview of what we’ll see Friday night, when the newly revamped Grace Potter and the Nocturnals open for Haynes’ Government Mule at Targhee Fest.

The bands have toured together, and the two singers have collaborated on a number of memorable covers, including this classic by Fleetwood Mac (with a touch of CSN thrown in). Grace is every bit as sexy and soulful as Stevie Nicks in her prime.

Friday night should be a rollicking opener to a weekend of music at Grand Targhee, with the likes of The Wallflowers and Sonny Landreth on Saturday and Keb’ Mo’ on Sunday. Click on the banner at right for all the details.

Targhee continues to make the good times greener, with a free shuttle running between Driggs and the resort nearly every half-hour during the festival, even at 2 a.m. for the Trap Bar crowd. Organizers encourage festgoers to bring their own reusable water bottles and will have a “Chill Tent” stocked with free ice water. The resort also aims to meet or beat last year’s mark of diverting nearly half of all waste through recycling and composting.

Time for a little Soulshine on the slopes beneath the sun and stars.

Down by the River and Take Me to the River are two others I’ve heard/seen clips of.

Grace has added a rhythm guitarist and has a new bass player, and they have a new album coming out, so should be cool (for those of us who’ve seen them here several times in the last two years) to check out the new sounds.

Grace Potter announced this morning on WPR that she has to leave as soon as her gig is done, so probably no big jam session with the two. Bummer!

They did Golddust woman last night at the end of the first set, easily the highlight of a very flat first set from Government Mule. Second set was much better with Sonny Landreth sitting in.

Grace rocked the house. Lukas Nelson was solid, Jackie Green very up and down. Grace showed those young boys how rock and roll is done.
