funny what will set people off.

the headline was a reference to the lengths Central Res may have to go to bring in skiers for January. it was an exaggeration.

I only included the airstrip wisecrack because I feel guilty promoting more air travel here. there is no denying that the exponential increase in flights (150 to 200 per day in peak season, mostly private jets) is having a serious, harmful effect on the qualities people go to national parks for: quiet, solitude.

I like to pass on information about deals. I like for people to visit JH. a lot of readers of this site live elsewhere, like tough-talking carbon-hog “ds” in New Jersey.

I recently flew in and out of JH Airport. do I take advantage of the convenience? of course. but I think about the consequences and try to get others to do likewise. perhaps some day we’ll trade that convenience for the long-term best interest of GTNP.

Moving the airport out of the valley is completely absurd. It will never happen nor should it. People don’t want to have to drive for an hour and a half after flying all day to get to Jackson. Since Jackson relies on tourism to survive, moving the airport would make it a lot tougher for the people who drive the Jackson economy to get there. Sounds like a bad decision.

Settle down everyone. First, the (air) offer requires a package purchase (hotel + lift tickets), so its not just a by 2 get 2. Second, this offer will in no way increase the number of flights in to the valley – they’re already set. Third its just for January.

If you want to be part of plausible change, support the lodging tax. It will (very) slightly curtail visitation while creating funds to help build sustainable infrastructure (increased START, etc.) and perhaps work toward carbon offset. Bemoaning the airport’s existence is pointless. Taking $ from tourists to offset their presence is where we should focus our energy.

That’s all I was asking is what you meant by our valley and that’s a great explanation. You and I both know many people take great pride in the valley but some take it to far, and many times its the not so local locals. My response was not toward your comment. It was directed at MikeV my speilling & grammerer teacher.

I didn’t say “my valley”, I said “our valley”, simply meaning the place where we live. It has nothing to do with ownership, it’s a thing called pride. I, like most, love it here, so naturally we want the best for this place. I believe, ds, is the only one who made selfish comments and showed that he doesn’t care for this special place or it’s residents. No one here is acting like they built the Tetons with their own bare hands, jerk.

“I would like to see it moved fromthe park but you have to have it somewhere close. period.” Yup, that is the idea.

I was merely stating my opinion and asking what people mean when they say our valley, as if they own jACKSON and the surrounding area. You must be the type you seemed pretty offended by the lower case j. I believe that we are all visitors if it’s for a day, or a lifetime no one is permanent here or anywhere else. However many act like they built the Tetons with their own two hands. Like you my Friend.
