That's Marie, visiting from Paris. But just over her shoulder, Hilary Swank canoodles her beau over lunch at Teton Village. Photo © John Dowling. Click to enlarge.
Used to be that Jackson Hole was known only for ski-lebrities, the dudes who appear in TGR films. Aside from the occasional Harrison Ford cameo and Connie Stevens‘ B-list Celebrity Ski Extravaganza, Jackson lacked the star power of its glitzier cousins Aspen and Sun Valley.
This New Year’s week, the Hole was abuzz with a slew of Hollywood sightings, from restaurants like Rendezvous Bistro and Osteria to the slopes at Teton Village. You couldn’t go out at night, it seemed, without running into an actor or actress that most of America is gaga about.
“Jackson is supposed to be this low-key place,” asked a friend, John Dowling, himself visiting from Los Angeles. “What’s with all the celebrities?”
This is what happened, I told him: Amangani and Four Seasons got built.
A skier skinning up Snow King last week unwittingly walked past Hilary Swank and her boyfriend waiting to go tubing. Also reported to be enjoying fresh snow in the Tetons were comedian Chris Rock, snowboarding at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (how did anybody pick him out in the crowd?), actress Julianne Moore and the regulars, Harrison and Calista and Sandra Bullock and beau Jesse James.
Before the holiday storm coated the slopes with two feet of powder, Indiana Jones was said to be dodging dirt spots on Casper on his snowboard.
There were other celebrities seen these past two weeks (fortunately, none tried to run the Snake River), but their names and significance are lost on me. A less celebrated actress is reputed to be in our midst, but that’s for another post.

canoodling with her beau??…. lesbians and men who secretly like men are gonna be so disappointed.
Classic Dowling stealth shot. Hope you paid him big paparazzi dollars for that pic.
I meant to add that Dowling is a minor star in his own right.
It’s worth noting that before the aforementioned powder arrived, conditions were pretty burly in the Hole. This day was cold, and Hilary peeled off a lot of layers once inside the restaurant. John said he was impressed that when she took off her balaclava, her hair was perfectly in place, and she had a “movie-star grace” about her.
As we all know, he likes to document a meal.
I can’t help noticing that Dowling and Jim are lunching at a high-end establishment, drinking red wine out of fancy glasses, and mingling with celebs when they were purportedly “crushing the mountain” at the Hole. Nice work, boys! You should start making your reservations for Aspen next year! Just kidding boys, nice picture.
I say hello, You say good by. To the Jackson we once enjoyed. It was a good ride cowboy, good ride.
keep on star gazing js, i am not impressed
