another chance to make history

Yes, we will again.

OK, so it won’t be as momentous as two years ago, but Saturday’s Democratic Party Convention is another step toward shaping our own destiny, starting at the grassroots level.

Teton Dems are looking for the next generation of leaders, perhaps those who are young and not that active in politics yet. Fresh perspective is always welcome.

The county convention starts at 4:30 p.m. — timed for apres-ski — at the Senior Center of Jackson Hole, 830 E. Hansen Ave. (which is kind of ironic, if you’re looking beyond the geriatric set).

Help elect delegates, decide the party platform and recruit candidates for local and state office.

Bring your camera and record an interview for the Dems’ Facebook page, and win free meals at Pica’s.

Better yet, bring your camera to the wolf killers’ rally beforehand and do your best Chase Whiteside impression.

Only two people under the age of 30 attended — a testament perhaps to the antiquity of political party structure.

Melissa Turley announced that she will run for re-election to the Jackson Town Council.

David Wendt, president of the Jackson Hole Center for Global Affairs, threw his hat in the ring for Congress, saying he will run against U.S. Rep. Cynthia Lummis. Wendt has extensive foreign policy experience and is a former wrangler for the Whitegrass Ranch.

But the loudest roar came near the end of the convention when attorney Len Carlman said he was interested in running for Wyoming Legislature to succeed Rep. Pete Jorgensen in House District 16. Carlman is former executive director of the JH Conservation Alliance and an emeritus board member of the Snake River Fund. A candidate as widely respected as Len will be hard to beat!

oooh, please give us the scoop on what was said at the wolf rally. I was to frightened to show up with my long hair and lack of redneck attire.
