Disco Cubin! The tributes to outgoing U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin, R-Wyo., keep pouring in.

So we’ll keep piling on.

Here, from readers in Casper and Cheyenne, is a compilation of more of Cubin’s greatest hits, annotated where applicable.

From an excellent article in Slate, 4/15/03:

Victoria’s Secret
Cubin once startled a group of GOP donors during a speech on energy policy by interjecting, “I know what Victoria’s Secret is. She’s a slut.”

ain't she lovely? The Wicked Witch of the West is done.

More than a few glasses were clinked in celebration this weekend after U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin announced that she will not seek re-election.

Thus ends a reign of error that began in 1994 and included such lowlights as:

Endorsing the slaughter of bison in Yellowstone National Park

Supporting a plan to sell off public lands to developers

Calling the $425 billion national deficit a “bookkeeping problem

Blaming former President Bill Clinton for the 9/11 attacks

And, of course, threatening to slap wheelchair-bound Libertarian Thomas Rankin following a 2006 debate

ain't she lovely?A few weeks ago I posted a spoof story about Barbara Cubin declaring the Earth is flat, following her real-life denial of global warming in a News&Guide article the week before.

The reaction to the spoof was surprising. A fair number of people — intelligent, discerning people who read the news — inquired whether the story was real.

While that might be a credit to the satire, it’s a sad statement on just how little esteem Cubin is held in by her constituents, who recognize that there seems to be no limit to the depths of ignorance to which she will sink.

The Wyoming congresswoman is at it again. Last week she voted against a bill that would restore timely release of presidential and vice presidential records.

Larson backs Cubin on national ID card

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

State Sen. Grant Larson, R-Jackson, killed a bill that would have stated Wyoming’s opposition to a national ID card.

Larson appears to have followed the direction of U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin, R-Wyo., who co-sponsored the Real ID Act and pressured Wyoming lawmakers not to oppose it.

The Wyoming House overwhelmingly approved a joint resolution calling for repeal of Cubin’s legislation, but Larson made sure it did not move past the Senate committee he chairs, the Casper Star-Tribune reported.

The resolution stated that the Real ID Act will “enable the crime of identity theft by making the personal information of all Americans, including date of birth and signature, accessible from tens of thousands of locations.”

Cubin: Earth is still flat

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

ain't she lovely?WASHINGTON — A week after dismissing concerns about global warming as the product of an “active media campaign,” U.S. Rep. Barbara Cubin, R-Wyo., held a press conference today to say the Earth is, in fact, flat.

“There still exists broad disagreement within the scientific community on the extent to which the globe is curved,” Cubin said.

Contrary to what people may have seen in textbooks, peer-reviewed journals or NASA photographs, the Earth’s spherical, orb-like shape is still a matter of debate, Cubin said.

She attributed the widespread perception that the Earth is round to “unpatriotic liberals, activist judges and a few dead-enders.”
