Brew Pub sponsoring PPP fun class

Studio 55 will not be back to dominate the fun class this year, opening the door for other festive, creative types to capture the title and win free beer.

The spring-like weather in recent days has athletes already looking forward to the 37th annual Pole Pedal Paddle race on March 31.

Snake River Brewing Co. has stepped forward to put more fun into the fun class. The brewery is offering a $250 party at the pub to the winning fun class team, the costumed group judged to be having the most fun at the event. Second place gets a 15-gallon keg, and third place a 5-gallon barrel.

The Jackson Hole Ski Club also has lowered the entry fee for fun class to $80 per team. Looking to draw more p-p-participants from out of town, the club is offering a cash purse of $3,500, including $500 to the men’s and women’s racing class winners (individuals and teams).

Register before March 27 to avoid paying a $15 late fee, either online or at the ski club office in Snow King Center.

$3 shuttles available for New Year’s

By Jim Stanford on December 29, 2011

Update: Click for schedule.

Thanks to the JH Late Night Transportation Crusade, New Year’s Eve merrymakers can get a safe, cheap ride home in something other than a police cruiser.

Shuttles will be provided between 12:30 and 3 a.m. connecting Teton Village, the West Bank and town. The town drop-off locations are Albertsons, Town Square and St. John’s Medical Center. Pick-up points on the West Bank are the Mangy Moose, Q Roadhouse and Stagecoach Bar.

Shuttles will run about every 20 minutes. Tickets are for sale in advance at the Town Square Tavern liquor store, Mangy Moose market and The Liquor Store, next to Albertsons.

So go ahead, have that extra extra glass of champagne and kiss the girls at midnight, assuming you can find any.

Aaron Davis has a rundown of all the New Year’s music around Jackson Hole.

Kudos to the organizers behind the transportation campaign. Between their efforts and the recent appointment of April Hankey to the START board, hopefully the community can come up with better bus service at night.

Last week, I met a group of West Bank friends at the ‘Coach to commemorate a special occasion. Because I caught a ride to the bar, I resigned myself to taking a cab home, if needed. After not finding anyone else driving to town, I took the cab — and had to pay $20 for a ride to the Square, which is freaking ridiculous.

shook it all winter long

By Jim Stanford on April 6, 2011

By any metric, the winter of 2010-11 in Jackson Hole was a knockout. And the celebration that erupted Sunday at the base of the slopes befitted such a season.

Narrowly edging the Star Wars cast, mullet guy and old granddad for MVP of the Last Tram party were the ladies toting the beer Dong Bong.

Many thanks to JHMR for hosting the party, DJs Vert-One and Cut la Whut for the tunes, Tony B. for the editing help, and all the freaky revelers for being themselves in uninhibited glory. Someday, I hope we all find jobs again.

The 2011 Last Tram party reached new heights, or lows, depending on your perspective.

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort concludes an epic season with 532 inches of snowfall and a 140-inch base in Rendezvous Bowl. Video to come shortly.

In the meantime, check out Tristan Greszko’s Tiny Day in Teton Village.

Closing day festivities at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort coincided with Easter Sunday and capped a week-long freak fest. Click to enlarge.

If you’ve been wondering why no Last Tram coverage this year, we’ve been waiting for photographer Taylor Glenn to get his film developed from closing week at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Yes, film. To many of us, that’s like skiing on a pair of 205 slalom boards. But as you can see from Taylor’s work, patience pays off in image quality.

An independent shooter specializing in wedding and portrait photography and also owner of the mobile photo booth, Taylor lugged his medium-format Contax all over Rendezvous Mountain for two festive occasions in the last week of the season: Gaper Fool’s Day on April 1 and the Last Tram party on April 4.

He compiled a gallery of 124 images that capture Jackson Hole in all its costumed, Pabst-guzzling glory. View the full slide show on his personal blog.
